Are you religious enough for heaven?

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe…

Romans 3:20-22

Every now and then I’m asked, “Are you one of those narrow-minded Baptists that think you’re the only ones going to heaven?” I love that question because I get to respond, “I’m actually more narrow-minded than that. I think there’s a lot of Baptists that aren’t going to get there!”

You can be a Baptist, a Methodist, a Catholic, a Presbyterian, or a pedestrian and still not know Jesus Christ. You can do all the right things: Practice your religion and go to church. But just calling yourself a Christian is not what makes you saved.

Do you know Jesus Christ? Is He real in your hearts? Or, does your confession of faith amount to “I’m a Jew!”, “I’m a Baptist!”, or “I’m a Christian!” It’s the difference between profession and possession of Jesus Christ.

Let me be very honest with you: You’re not good enough, not talented enough, not religious enough, and not pure enough to stand before a holy God on judgment day. Your most righteous acts are filthy rags in His sight (Isaiah 64:6). The only way you’ll ever inherit eternal life is to clothe yourself in the righteousness of Christ.

Don’t trust yourself. Trust Him.

YOU’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT TO HEAVEN—AND YOU NEVER WILL BE. PUT ON THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST AND TRUST HIM AS THE ONLY WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE.
